The Trouble with Guns

Updated: Sep 27, 2017

The main trouble with guns during a zombie apocalypse is that they run out of bullets. When you're fighting endless hordes of zombies, what will you do when you run out of ammo? Using guns as clubs is not very effective, especially if they're handguns. You know how the movies go. When your gun runs out of bullets, you throw it at the enemy's head and knock him out. Well, that won't work against zombies. To kill a zombie you have to crack through the skull and damage the brain. Bouncing a handgun off a zombie's head won't kill it.

An unloaded handgun is useless against a zombie attack. At least with an empty rifle or shotgun, you can club the zombie's head and smash its brain to smithereens, which will kill the thing. If you have a choice between handguns and rifles and shotguns, go for the long-barreled weapons. The shorter the barrel, the less desirable is the gun during a zombie apocalypse.

Not only is ammunition hard to come by during a zombie apocalypse, you will need to keep your guns clean and well oiled, which is not always easy during the end of the world where everything is falling apart. Dirt and grime will be everywhere during the apocalypse. Living quarters will be filthy and insect infested. It's no fun to lock and load your weapon in preparation for a zombie onslaught, if your weapon's going to jam thanks to filth and rust.

For CQB, you can't beat a Louisville Slugger. No ammo needed for this baby. No zombie head that ever existed can stand up to the barrel of a baseball bat. And remember, always swing for the fences when you're killing zombies. A single or a double isn't going to get you there. You need to bash that zombie's head into mush to kill it. Try to hit a home run over 500 feet long.
